The mesothelioma oncologists and doctors will use a rubric system or
"staging" when about to determine the nature and extent of any type
of cancer, including mesothelioma. This is just one standard of malignancy that
are classified, the first is determined by the location or the location of the
tumor, while a third is determined by the type of mesothelioma cells.
This staging system will
assist the Oncologist in deciding the level of development of the asbestos
cancer and is the best way to design a special treatment course for patients
with malignancy.
Although there are three
staging systems used today is different, but all three are still based on the
four main stages of mesothelioma:
On stage 1 mesothelioma, tumor
confined to one region or on one organ alone and relatively small.
- On stage 2 mesothelioma, the size of the tumor has grown and has spread to one of the other networks.
- On stage 3 mesothelioma, the tumor has spread to the area surrounding or adjacent.
- On stage 4 mesothelioma, tumors have spread to distant tissues from the body or "metastasis."
Stage 3 Mesothelioma Prognosis
When the disease has reached
phase 3, the prognosis for mesothelioma will increasingly bleak. Even though
the primary tumor can be removed, the cancer cells are likely to spread to the
region or another network, so that the remission or cure becomes impossible. In
these conditions, palliative care is the best options that can reduce pain and
make patients feel more comfortable until the eve of his final days.
