Mesothelioma Staging

Stages of Mesothelioma are a measure of the level of assessment by doctors who are utilized to determine the levels or stages of cancer in a patient's body. Mesothelioma staged between 1 and 4, depending on the severity. Mesothelioma stage 1, for example, is the disease is localized, where tumors affect only a limited area and organ tissue. Stage 4 cancer, on the other extreme, is kind of disease widespread, which has spread far from the origin of the tumor, affecting other organ tissues or even blood or bone cells.

Given how mesothelioma is so rare, then the formal staging classification that exists only for pleural mesothelioma, which affects the chest cavity and membranes of the lungs. Staging determines the diagnosis, using some diagnostic procedures. The base will be determined after staging through the use of imaging scans; the results will provide data about cancer specialist visual representation of the level of tumor in the patient’s body.

If the results of the scan imaging could still not concluded or it appears that the disease is not localized, so the doctor may ask the patient to undergo the process of needle or surgical biopsy, doing that can determine whether malignant cells have spread to lymph nodes or blood through laboratory testing.

Stages Of Mesothelioma

Stage 1 Mesothelioma

In stage 1, tumor is localized, no involvement of the lymph nodes, and cancer still has not spread to other organs or tissues. In this case, the cancer may be confined to one side of the pleura alone and usually that's worth is to do a surgery appointment.

Stage 2 Mesothelioma

In stage 2, the tumor became bigger and had attacked the diaphragm or the lung. Perhaps also there is involvement of lymph nodes. In this case, even though the cancer had likely spread to both sides of the pleura, but surgical resection can be performed.

Stage 3 Mesothelioma

In stage 3, mesothelioma has struck a region or territory such as the esophagus, chest wall, or lymph nodes. In this case, general surgical resection was ruled out as a potential and favorable treatment.

Stage 4 Mesothelioma

In stage 4, mesothelioma has struck some areas such as the different areas of the chest wall, diaphragm or pericardium. Cancer has spread to other organs or tissues and also involves the lymph nodes. In this case, the appointment did not give the value of the surgery in this case as the disease that may be distant metastasis beyond its origin.
