Asbestos fibers are inhaled by mouth and nose will eventually settles in the lining of the lungs, which can cause dangerous inflammation (pleura) and will produce mesothelioma or asbestosis (the formation of scar tissue in the lungs). It has also been found that asbestos fibers are ingested can also contribute to a form that originated in the belly of malignancy or known as peritoneal mesothelioma.

Even though mesothelioma is generally derived from exposure to asbestos work, but also found examples of cases that occur from exposure to the environment that can also cause mesothelioma. Indirectly, dirty linen from a worker exposed to asbestos often can also affect their family members.

Asbestos is an effective insulation material. In a study reported that approximately six percent of those who work related to asbestos victims of mesothelioma or suffer respiratory symptoms. Compared to that does not have a history of asbestos exposure, they isolated the asbestos workers have the possibility more than 300 times suffer from mesothelioma.
